Collection Cup

I have a new Classic 1000 HOB Protein Skimmer. Running fine from day one except lately it becomes harder and harder to pull out place back the collection cup. I wash it thoroughly on both sides including main chamber where the cup goes in, still having a problem. Please advise. Thank you.
