I just purchased a 16k Masxpect Razor. I am replacing a t5 setup of 6 -24 watt bulbs ( it was a four unit and a two unit on a corner tank) The bulbs were due to be replaced this month or next as I usually change them every 6-8 months.

I have a few sps but mostly lps with a rose bubble tip anemone and small clam that is on the sand along with fish and other inverts. The fish store told me to run the lights at no more than 40% intensity and after a week begin to ramp up. I am a little concerned as this appears to not be enough light, although I understand leds are deceiving. I am basically using my same photo period of time but only at no more than 40% at the peak hours of the period but they look like dusk setting on my t5s.

The presets are higher intensity. Would I be ok going with those higher settings for this week with my T5 schedule and then ramping up or staying with the 40% at my schedule the t5s were running?

Thank you!

Debbie,

Raise the intensity to 60% at peak hours for another week and then run Preset 1. Six T5 lamps is a lot of light, compared to the Razor at 40%.

Hi Chris - Thanks for getting back. I raised the intensity only for one morning and believe it or not I saw my anemone not acting right - withdrawn into the rock cleft he usually is at. So I lowered it back to 40% on the blue channel and 35% on the white channel on my same schedule I was running the t5's. It appears after having him for nearly 3 years he is beginning to split for the first time! I guess the light change with the water change I did stressed him. My corals seem ok - all inflated as well as my clam is open. The anemone is looking better after the following day, but not fully split yet.

Thursday will be 1 week that I have had the light on this schedule. I was wondering if raising to 50% for the blue and 40% for the white for another week would be a good plan and gradually raising after that. The preset 1 I see is 100% and I think that is a big jump under these circumstances. You stated that my previous t5 set up is more light than the razor at 40%. Can you help me understand what the 100% setting of this light is in comparison to the 6 24W ATI bulbs I was using? I have a 54 gal corner tank that I am using this light on. I was told by the LFS that it was appropriate lighting, but I want to make sure.

Getting appropriate light for a corner tank is a bear! About two years ago I had used a mix of t5 (2 24 w coralife bulbs) with two aquabeam led strips that I was told would be adequate light. For some reason when I switched to all t5 I got the best results. I gave up on the aquabeams as the diodes kept breaking and it cost a fortune to have them sent and repaired. I read alot of very good reviews about the razor and the LFS suggested it. Since my t5 fixture went bye-bye, I thought I would try LED's again with a better fixture but I want to make sure I am comparing apples to apples as close as possible. I love the light, the less heat it is generating, but again, I want to make sure my reef will be ok with this set up as I am a bit surprised at the bubble tip anemone reaction.

Thanks for your input and help.
