I bought a 3000EXT and I know that this skimmer is designed to use outside a sump, but my question is can I use this skimmer in the sump, and how to make that work?
Thanks,

You would have to raise the skimmer above water and then have a feeder pump push water into it. It is still an external skimmer but instead of installing it on the side, you are installing it above the sump with some type of raising table.
If you were to put it in the water like an internal skimmer, then we cannot guarantee that the skimmer will work as advertised as you are not using it as it was designed to be used. It may or it may not work, we cannot really guarantee it though.

Ok, I figured it was best to check with you, I had been told by the LFS that it would work internally, but just wanted it to check with you first. I bought this used, is there a installation manual for this unit online?
Thanks again!

There is no installation if you want to use it as an insump.

Here is the assembly diagram: http://blog.coralvue.com/download/7071/
In terms of installation, the skimmer should be placed next to the sump and always be higher than the sump. You should not modify or cut any parts of the skimmer plumbing. The output plumbing should always be directed horizontally or downwards back to the sump. It should never go up ANY degree. If it does go up, it will raise the water level inside the skimmer.
The feed pump also needs to be able to push 1.5-2x your system's water volume but NOT EXCEED 900gph. So you may need to put a gate valve to throttle it back if you have a pump that can push more than that amount of water.
Once installed, here is a short article on how to properly tune your skimmer:
