That would be running the skimmer too deep. That skimmer needs to be in 6.5-7.5" of water to run correctly. Otherwise, the skimmer will overflow.

If the skimmer is working for you, then leave it as is. If you move it higher, you may run into "overflow" issues.

The recommended water depth is 6.5-7.5" of water. If you raise the skimmer to that level, then you may need to adjust it with the gate valve.
