BH-2000 HOB Skimmer Startup

When I first start the BH-2000 skimmer, I have to move the input as high as it will go, or the rush of bubbles and water leaks around the collection cup and onto the floor. Once it has started, I can move the cup down to the proper level to skim the surface and pull in water. Is there any way to keep it at a level where I don't have to keep moving it every time I start the skimmer? And, I want to use a Davy Jones Locker collector to catch any collection cup overflow, and eventually turn off the skimmer when the collector is full. That requires an outlet from the collection cup like the one on the Coralife HOB skimmer, or drilling a hole in the side of the collection cup and inserting a barb with hose to the DJ Locker. Any thoughts on that?

Depending on your setup you may want to raise the skimmer off the edge of the aquarium a bit. Also make sure that the output is not buried at the bottom of the bubble stopper chamber and that the top of the chamber remains above the water level. When modifying the cup do it towards the top of the collection cup so it does not disrupt your ability to raise and lower the collection cup.
