Firmware update, poor directions.

After reading the instructions on how to update the firmware, I have discovered FAT formatting on a micro SD card is not possible on sizes larger than 2GB. The instructions clearly state to not go over the 32GB size and to format it to FAT.

I went out and purchased a 32GB class 10 micro SD card only to find that the volume is only possible to format in FAT32. Unless you are aware of a workaround - might you clear this up a bit in your instructions?

Are there any workarounds to this or do I just eat the $30 and go purchase another 2GB card just to update the firmware?

Can you please provide me with a name or link of a SD card that will provide the specs needed to update the firmware.

I am using Windows 10 pc and 2gb fat16 cards are all that are available.

Any SD card that has not been formatted by a camera or device will work.

Thanks for the response but that is not very helpful and seems incorrect. I have purchased 3 micro SD cards all of which have not been formatted and they will not work.

On attempt to format them to FAT, the size is too large. I am looking for some specific Information here about a card that will work. You are saying g any card will work that has not been formatted and from what I can research no cards over 2gb are formatted or can be formatted to FAT.

So if you can please answer the questain about what cards specifically will work, or a workaround I would appreciate it.

SanDisk Ultra is a great brand and has worked for us every time. No larger than 32GB.

Thank you. Can you address the issue of FAT formatting on cards larger than 32gb? I have a SanDisk Ultra 16gb as its the smallest available instore.

Every indication is that it must be 2gb and I will need to order another one of that is the case.

Thank you.

The controller is not compatible with cards that are greater than 32GB. It wont work no matter how you format it.

We use a SandDisk Ultra 32GB C10 card and it works every time.

32gb cards are all formatted in FAT32... I dont know what we are missing here. The instructions state FAT only. you say a 32 gig card works right out of the box - 3 of mine dont. New in box are formatted to FAT32.

lets stop talking about sizes larger than 32 - I understand.

Are you partitioning the SD card? There has to be more information you can give besides this.

PLEASE ANSWER QUESTION BELOW

Again, I have a very specific question that you simply are not addressing here. I have 3 SD cards 32,32, and 16 gb. NONE of them can be formatted to FAT. The largest volume of memory that can be formatted in FAT is 2gb.

How specifically PLEASE are you getting around this.

We are not getting around anything. We took the card out of the manufacturer's packaging and we inserted it into the computer, then we dragged the firmware file into the SD card and then ejected it. That was it... No special formatting or partitioning... Insert, drag and drop and eject...

Then you must have the Midas touch! I am not trying to be difficult- its just I have done that with 3 separate cards and it is not working because they are all formatted in FAT32. I am using Class 10 32gig Kingston Micro SD cards.

I have followed the instructions exactly as described over 40 times trying to update the firmware. I have even tripple checked each step. I dont know how you are getting a 32gig card to work if the formatting needs to be FAT. They all come with FAT32.

Any thoughts on what to do next?

Can you reformat them so they are not formatted to FAT32? They should be formatted to FAT.

That is precisely what I am saying. Carlos, unless you know some sorcery - you can't format a micro SD card larger than 2gb to FAT. ALL 32gb SD cards are formatted in FAT32 and may not be formatted in FAT.

Any google search will tell you the same exact thing. 32 gig cards can not be formatted to FAT

The default formatting for cards up to 2GB is FAT16.

In recent years, memory cards have gained more storage capacity; 4GB and above. The file format FAT32 is now commonly used in memory cards between 4GB and 32GB.

If a digital device supports only the FAT16 file system you cannot use a memory card bigger than 2GB (i.e. SDHC/microSDHC or SDXC/microSDXC memory cards).

memory cards of 4GB or more such as those in the CompactFlash i-Pro, UltimaPro and SDHC ranges are only supported by FAT32 devices and must be formatted to FAT32.

It is best practice to format the card in your device before use, CAUTION formatting a card will delete all data, please see your device manual.

FAT 16 (FAT) FAT 32 exFAT (FAT 64)
Maximum file size 2GB* 4GB 2TB (limited by card)
SD Card type SD SDHC, microSDHC
SDXC, microSDXC
PC Compatible OS Windows ME/2000/XP/7/8.1
Windows ME/2000/XP/7/8.1
Windows XP/Vista/7/8.1

Notes
Windows OS may require updates, please see Table 2 below
Mac Compatible OS
Mac OS 8/9/X
Mac OS 8/9/X Mac OS X 10.6.5 and above
*Recommended limit by Microsoft for compatibility but can be up to 4GB

I just checked the SD card we have here... As you can see, the card is formatted to MS-DOS (FAT32) and it works fine for us. We use the same card to update gyre controllers. See attached picture.

The only other issue I can think of is that the firmware file itself is corrupt. The file should be uncompressed and then dragged into the SD card. If you try opening the actual file with a 3rd party program (Word) and then saving it to the SD card, that will render the file useless.

The file was corrupt and reloading it gave me 1.7 updated on my unit. Thank you for the help here, Carlos. The reason I did a firmware update was to get the functionality of the reverse timed delay.

I am running 1.7 and I do not have the reverse time delay option on any of the modes on my controller. Thoughts?

Reverse time delay? There is a time delay function and the reverse is set by making the speed a negative number (-).

In this photo from the site

There are 4 icons in the picture just above this text I have copied from the site. The last icon is the reversed timed delay that has two arrows crossing one another and one is shorter. This icon and its functionality are not present on my controller.

Anti-sync: Pumps run opposite
Time Delay: One Gyre starts a few seconds after the first Gyre
Reverse Time Delay: Start both pumps at the same time but have one pump’s mode end first

I will contact the manufacturer to see if that link mode was removed from the features. They may have incorporated it into a different mode or it was deem redundant so it was removed from the available features.
