Bio pellet and uv

Hi... I have a 350g total water system, FOWLR. Looking to get nitrates down I run the dcs-250 int. and I'm looking to get steadier production out of it. Can I run a bio pellet reactor, and which one would you recommend, along with my uv sterilizer. Or would the uv just be killing everything off and therefore pointless to run pellets? I thought a reactor would work being it's contained bacteria inside. Any suggestions how to reduce nitrates while running u.v?

How big is your tank (without the sump)?

The biopellet reactor will definitely benefit your system. Your skimmer is too big for the system. The system is rated for 500 gallons and you only have a 270 gal tank. Your skimmer is probably working for a little while and then it crashes for some time and then works again.

Once the biopellets have taken (usually takes about 6 months) then your skimmer will actually become a little more stable and you will be able to get your system to work with the skimmer. Also, the increased bacteria fostered by the biopellets will take care of the high nitrates and probably high phosphates.

We do not recommend using UV with biopellets but there are people that run both and the system works and there are other people that run both and the system does not work. It depends on the system and you will need to test that.

Hope this helps.

So which reactors would you recommend

That is a hard question to answer because it really has to do with your bioload. It has to do with the number of fish in the tank, the amount and type of food you are feeding. If your load really high, then you go with a larger reactor but if your load is what would be sometimes considered normal, then a smaller reactor will work better.

In your system, I would say you will be using about 1000-1200 ml of biopellets. My suggestions would be the following:
