I have my xf280 vertical, and it constantly gets air trapped in it. Then tiny bubbles blow out of it. Any reason why?

Most likely too close to the surface. The pump cannot produce air bubbles by itself. The air must be coming from somewhere and getting trapped inside the pump.

It’s a good five inches from the surface, running in reverse so not a ton of flow. Watched it for a while and have not seen any air get sucked into it. I don’t want to sound dumb, but any other thoughts?

Move it to a different location and see if it happens there. Pump's dont just produce air. The air has to be coming from somewhere and accumulating on the pump.

I have the same problem. My Icecap 1k is pretty much a microbubble factory. After much arguing with them, they had me send it in. They said nothing was wrong with it. I put it back in my tank and it worked fine for about 3 weeks, then the bubbles came back. Mine is about 5" from the waterline. It's cavitating. If I shut the pump off, the bubbles are completely gone in 5 minutes. This will be the last Icecap product I buy. I spent $130 on something that makes my water look like crap, and could possibly kill my fish. I understand when you manufacture thousands of a product, not every single one will be perfect, but do something about the ones that aren't.
