They are completely different skimmers so you cannot compare. One is an AC pump and the other runs on a DC pump. The performance is good so it is a matter of price and preference.

Well I am just looking for performance wise. They are within $40 of each other. So cost isn't a issue. I am just asking which performs better. 1 has a 5"neck 1 has a 4.5" neck. One says upto 400gallon one says up to 300 gallon. Is this true?

Or a better question does the dc pump perform better than the bubble blaster pump?

They are both essentially the same body and can handle the same system load. The variable speed control of the DC pump allows for a greater range of control and handling. The new VarioS 4S also provides a bit more over all performance over the BB3000.

The VarioS pump is the new DC pump from Reef Octopus. It has a new advanced controller that includes a float switch connection, two different feed modes, and a 0-10v port to connect to a 3rd party controller.

So if the skimmer comes with the white controller that means it has the VarioS pump? I ask because BRS say the skimmers they have come with the white controller but are unable to verify which pump is in the box.

No, there are two versions of the white pump. The RODC pump with a controller that is similar to the VarioS but does not have the 0-10v input and the VarioS that does come with the 0-10v input at the bottom of the controller.

One more question, can I use the Kassil Apex 0-10v cable with the VarioS controller? What cable do you recommend for Apex hookup?

Cables are made differently so as long as they follow the Neptune standards it should be ok. We recommend the following cables as they follow the Apex standard of wiring a cable...

Sorry, my ? was meant to be a !

I guess I need an adapter to use this cable as the Icecap cable description says it's a 2.5mm cable while the VarioS needs a 3.5mm connection.
