My skimmer pump will not run unless I blow into the venturi air hose

Every time I shut the skimmer pump off I can't get it started unless I blow into the airline. Is there a problem with the pump or the way I have the skimmer installed?

Sometimes a air pocket will sit inside the skimmer pump and cause the impeller to spin in air. If it does not have enough water in the pump body the pin wheel cannot get started. Blowing air into the line will force the pocket of air out and allow water into the pump housing which will start it spinning.
Having to blow into air venturi hose can be a sign of a clogged venturi or the skimmer itself my be submerged in too deep of water. Make sure the venturi is free of salt creep as well as the air hose. Check the recommended water level for your skimmer.

This may also be a sign the magnet impeller is going bad. Magnetic impellers seem to lose there magnification over time and need to be replaced.
