No, technically you should not but a guard on a skimmer pump as it will clog up and affect the performance of the skimmer. Most people rely on the filter socks to prevent small critters from making their way down to the sump.

Thanks Carlos, I appreciate the response. I have a refugium and a zillion little snails that get everywhere, so I'll have to rig something up as it's eventually going to wreck the impeller! I upgraded and repaired this pump with the help of the support team, so I appreciate coralvue's help as always! Thank you!
