How often do think you should be cleaning the pumps?

I have a Dual Reef Octopus HOB with 2 relatively new pumps and i find that they start making a noise - with water still pumping but no bubbles - every other week. I take them out of my saltwater tank and run them in a 25-50% Vinegar to Fresh Water Solution overnight and that seems to work but only temporarily - for about a week or two. The only thing i can think of is that i add ESV 2-part solution every other day and maybe its building up slightly in the pumps.

It doesn't seem right that i should have to maintain them in that way that often. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

We usually recommend cleaning skimmer pumps every three months and return pumps every six months.

Thanks Carlos! Unfortunately i cant wait that long, they literally stop making bubbles every week or two and make this loud humming noise... it feels like i always have one of them being cleaned..

When you clean them, did you check the impeller for signs of damage or see if the shaft is broken?

Please use the "Submit a Ticket" to start a new ticket. Be sure to enter the pump's model number and also include proof of purchase.
