Ok so I've had my dcs170 for about a month now
And about a week ago it was giving me problems
Overflowing so I raised it up to be in 7in of water
And I have the valve adjusted so that the water
Level in the skimmer is just to the tapered part of the
Body but I can't seem to get constant skimmate
I do use some coral food like reef snow that seems to
Drop the foam production for a little while but starts foaming
Again in a few hrs any suggestions?

Are you adding any type of chemical additives such as bacteria startup or algaecide or adding water conditioner for water changes?

Here is a good small read on why skimmers overflow... http://www.coralvue.com/support/935227-Skimmer-overflowing

No just reef builder trace element additive and reef snow
Seems like I am getting an 1/8 in of gunk in skimmer
Cup in a 24 hr period running the pump at full power
In level 6

That sounds about right. If it is doing that, then it is working as it should.

Is it ok to use the feed button to remove the collection cup
And when I use my additives for the coral does it affect the performance
When using the feed button lets say twice in a 24hr period?

Yes, that would be fine. Some additives will make the skimmer overflow so you have to be careful when adding them.
