To remove the shaft from your Gyre please do the following:

Remove the cages, propellers and propeller bushings until you are left with just the motor block and the shaft. Hold the motor block in your hand with the shaft vertical and the side with the star bushing (driver door - see attached picture) facing upwards. Gently tap the opposite end of the shaft on a tabletop or other hard surface until you see the star bushing begin to move. Once the star bushing comes out enough to be able to grab it; take a pair of regular pliers and GENTLY grab around the bushing and pull it out of the motor block. You will then be able to remove the shaft and the motor block bushings.

I removed the correct bushing and can not budge the magnet shaft out. Trying your advice resulted in only the white bushing being mangled. It is still under warranty and I need this to be resolved please. My tank livestock is declining due to lack of flow. Thank you

Gerardv: Order some extra bushings for the rotor shaft and keep them on hand. If you wait too long to clean, the shaft will freeze to the bushings. I suspect this is due to calcium or other things building up in them over time. A weak link in an otherwise great system! Be very careful not to break the white ceramic shaft. You can order replacement magnets with shafts though.
