Got a new new Diablo and having a heck of a time getting it to work even partially. I have tried everything over the last week.... I purchased the extension neck on the advice of a CoralVue rep I met at the conference in Ft. Lauderdale last month. The is on a FOWLR tank 500 gallon. I have a competitors skimmer that I moved to the other 500 gallon tank and it skimmed very well.....

The skimmer produces virtually no foam...kind of like when you lead a horse to water but it wont drink...foam gets to the top and stays there... If I even move the valve 1/8 of a turn it pours over and fills the cup with clear water... The bubble chamber seems to be turbulent most of the way up the skimmer and even into the neck area....

I have set the water level at 6 ,7, and 9 inches...
I have tried messing with the output after the valve to be level, drop down....even have no pipes coming out of the gate valve.
I have pulled the extension neck off...
I have moved the power from 3,4,5, and 6 on the variable pump setting...

One thing I have noticed is that if I drop the pump down from 6 the pump sometimes has a hum to it....in power 6 it is silent.

any help or suggestions would be appreciated...I did read the thread on here on the sro 200int....but most of it doesn't apply here....

With the DCS3000 you want to let it sit in 7.5-8.5". The skimmer will take 3-4 weeks to break in. Usually if the skimmer is not handled within two weeks you will get decent filtration but the stability of the skimmer usually doesn't happen till the 4th week of running. I would not use the neck extension till you get the skimmer broken in and dialed into your system first.

How long has the skimmer been running for?

Been running for close to 2 weeks....

I know it takes a week or two with most skimmers to break in but why 4 weeks for this skimmer? I know the process of making the skimmer uses some chemical process's that need time to clean out so to speak..... Would using a vinegar bath speed up the process? Will I also have the same issue when I clean it once every 6 months.....thanks for responding....

I say all skimmers take 3-4 weeks to fully break in. Depending on the system and the handling of the skimmer prior to installation all play key to the break in. All the skimmers I have ever used and set up have all fully broken in after the 4th week mark. You usually get some stability and filtration from the skimmer in the 3rd week but usually doesn't stabile out till the 4th which I think has a lot to do with the colonization of bacteria on the acrylic surfaces.
