i purchased this model protein skimmer in Dec 2013.
I've had no problems with it till recently.
i was doing some routine cleaning and noticed the skimmer itself was getting full of algae. so i shut it off, cleaned it, refilled it with water, then plugged it in.
immediately it began creating bubbles larger than before. it was bubbling so much that it filled the collection cup up with water and i had to empty it almost 5 times before i just shut it off.
Any clue as to why its doing that?

What did you use to clean it? Sounds like something was introduced to the inner surfaces of the skimmer or in the aquarium water itself. Using some fresh activated charcoal will help remove what ever should be in your water. If it was something used on the surface you may want to rinse the skimmer body with vinegar and water. Rinse very well because you do not want a bacterial bloom from the vinegar.
