I have an sro2000 in sump skimmer with a hy2000s pump. The clear intake housing is broken around the mounting screws, and the pump also will not run consistantly. So, I need to relpace it. The problem is the new replacement pumps I see for sale have a union fitting on the output side where thepump connects to the skimmer, and my pump does not have that fitting. On the pump I have the clear plastic housing plugs right in to the skimmer body. I accidentally ordered a hy3000s and it would not fit. Is the union fitting on the new hy2000s pumps the same size as the old one piece housing?

Yes, you need to take the union fittings from the old skimmer pump and add them to the new pump. The HY-2000S and the HY-3000S are different sizes so the unions will not fit the other.

There is not a union on the old pump, the clear volute housing connects directly to the skimmer body.

Can you take a picture of the old pump and skimmer? Please attach them to this ticket. Also, how old is the skimmer?

Here is a couple pictures of the pump and the box the skimmer came in. I bought it used so I'm not sure of it's age. The piece of the pump that fits into the opening on the skimmer body is 37mm.

That part comes off both volutes and then you can interchange them. It is machine screwed so it will be tight but they can be removed, they are not glued.

So I had to take off the volute housing and turn it so the output was at the bottom like the old pump in the picture, in order to get it to line up with the hole in the skimmer body. It is running and seems to be doing what it is supposed to do, but I have the gate valve almost closed in order for the bubble head to be where it should be. It seems it should be more open than that. Is this normal?

Do you mean the skimmer outflow valve?

What is your salinity? How long has the skimmer been offline? Is the skimmer insump or external?

Salinity is 1.025. Skimmer has been offline for 3 months. It is in-sump, at the recommended depth. The tank is new so it could be there just aren't enough organics to produce skimmate, but I would think a pump of this size would easily overflow the collection cup with water if not dialed back by the skimmer outflow valve.

If the tank is new and the skimmer has been offline for that long, then your system and skimmer need to cycle. It is like starting a new tank. Not enough organics and the chemistry is not right yet (sorted out) to have the skimmer work consistently. It will go up and down until your tank and the skimmer break in.
