I would like to use my old Ecotech battery backups with my new dual XF280 and controller setup. There are two cabels marked battery backup coming from the controller can I just plug the ecotech units in?

carlos, what is the correct backup for two xf280s?
there was an unresolved issue on this reef2reef thread
Unfortunately the XF280's run on 36 volts so there isn't a backup available. In this case, I would suggest running a backup UPC unit like the ones needed for computers.

Pretty much any UPC that can handle a computer can handle the pump. In terms of which, it is pretty much up to you as it comes down to price. There are quite a few options ranging from the cheap ones to expensive ones that can run the machine for days and will even send you notifications of battery status.
That battery will work. I cannot tell you if the controller will detect the fact that it is running on a battery. We have not tested the XF280 pumps on those batteries here.

We have not tested any of those UPC backups before so we cannot recommend any of them.
