Good Morning,

I bought the POV DC2 and really like it. I would like to ask a few questions and if you have any links to forums answering my questions please feel free to forward. Please also note skimmer has only bee running for a week now.

1. How important is the 6.5" operating depth? I am at 8-9" depth now and it's looking like a good start. I bought the RO skimmer table and its not tall enough to get the bottom of the skimmer to a 6.5" depth.

2. How do I adjust this skimmer? It looks like I can change motor speed and the red water outflow valve, How do I know when these two items are set for best performance? Where should they be set?

Thanks Again,

Ward Culver

How old is the skimmer? How long has the skimmer been running for and what size tank do you have?

If the skimmer is new, then it needs to break in. During the break in period (at least 3 weeks) the skimmer will act erratically and will be very inconsistent. Some days it will not collect at all and some days it will collect nicely. If you force the skimmer to always collect during this period (closing the valve or placing the skimmer in deeper water) you will run into overflowing issues. The skimmer needs sufficient area for the water and air to properly mix before overflowing to the collection cup. If not enough space is given, the skimmer will still work but will end up overflowing more often than not.

We recommend placing the skimmer in 6.5" of water from the get go and opening the gate valve all the way. Leave the skimmer as is for the first 3 weeks and after the skimmer is broken in, then you can go ahead and start tuning it by closing the gate valve and if needed, reducing the speed of the pump.

Once the skimmer is broken in, here is a quick read on how to properly dial the skimmer...

I bought and set the skimmer up a week ago. It's a 300 gallon with a 75 gallon sump. I will open the valve all the way but what setting should i have the motor on? Thanks

Just leave it at full blast unless you start to overflow constantly. If you overflow and you have the valve open, then go ahead and start to back off the pump.
