I have the Reef Octopus NWB150 with the OTP 2000 pump. When my power goes out, or I turn the skimmer off for whatever reason, it will not pull air and make bubbles when it re-starts. If I put my finger in front of the intake hole of the air venturi, it seems to "prime" it and I can remove my finger and it works properly. When it restarts without this "priming" it will pump water into the skimmer, but it doesn't overflow or anything.
The skimmer is sitting in approximately 8" of water. The air venturi was broken for a while, so I changed it because I thought that might be what is causing this problem. I changed the venturi intake and cleaned the pump up but it is still doing the same thing.
The skimmer is approximately 2 years old, so I don't think its under warranty. Someone told me that the pump might be going bad and said that Reef Octopus has gone to a new style skimmer. Do you think that this might be a possibility? If so, will the new pump work on my skimmer?
This problem has already caused me some serious problems, so I would really like to get it resolved. Thank you for any information you can provide.

Yes, you will likely need a new pump. For your skimmer, we recommend the following:
It comes with a 2-year warranty on the pump body and 1-year warranty on the impeller.

On my skimmer, the pump sits outside of the skimmer body. The output from the pump is on the side of the pump where it connects to the skimmer. The output from this pump is on top of it. How does it hook up to the skimmer? Are there extra parts that I need or do I just turn the thing over on it's side? It won't directly attach to my NWB150 that way it is shown in the picture.
Thanks for your help. I really need to get this squared away so I don't have any more problems. It's driving me nuts.

Never mind, I just read through on online forum and saw that the Aquatrance pump kind of sits on it's nose and connects where the OTP pump did. I will be ordering soon. Thank you for your help.
