dear all.

i am the owner of a "super reef octopus xp2000" in sump cone skimmer.
i bought the thing 1 week ago, and since that day its in my sump.
its new, so it has a break-in period, but this thing is overflowing like crazy, for a full week now!

i had it in 10.5 inch of water, wich is too high, so i raised it, with some egg crate to 6.7 inch.
i cant put it any higher, because the stand isnt higher..

still in 6.7 inch the thing keeps overflowing like mad! even with the gate valve wide open.

the micro bubbles seems to get lesser by the day

does any one have a clue what to do?
i like the performance, and really hope it can be adjusted to work in approx 7 inches of water

The skimmer needs to be in no more than 5.75" to 6.00" inches of water. Anything above that and you will be running the skimmer high and not allowing the water and the air enough time to mix.

Also, are you introducing any additives to your tank? Any type of startup additive or some type of water conditioner to make water changes?

Carlos, thanks for the help so far.

The skimmer is brandnew, so it takes some time to break it in.

No additives, in a 100gallon tank.

So there is no way this skimmer works in 6.7 inch?

6.7 inches would be considered too high and there isn't enough room for the water and the air to mix properly before overflowing. It MAY work once the skimmer is broken in but during the break in period, it will probably overflow a few times.

What is the best way to break it in.
If it has to be in 6 inch or lower, it means cutting out the panel in my sump, and replace it with a lower panel.

I heard it helps to leave it run in a vinegar Bath?

Vinegar batch is done to clean a pump. To break in the pump, you just have to let it run and try not to adjust it so much.

Run the drain back to the sump so that it does not drain your tank. Also, add a bag of carbon to the end of the hose so the water goes through carbon before being introduced back to the sump. This way, if there is something in the water that is making the skimmer create too many bubbles, the carbon will remove it. This is better than just dumping the water back into the sump and creating a never ending cycle.
