I'm running a sro3000int on my 180g. It currently has a light bio load but I'm planning to more fish & have some tangs that still have some growing to do. I can't seem to get a good or consistent skim at any water level, I've tried everything from 6-8in depth on the skimmer and just can't get it dialed in. I've been pleased with RO products in the past & don't want to give up a good skimmer if I don't have to. Any ideas to help me get a good skim? If I was to swap out pumps with the varios 4-s, do you think I could dial it in better, with the variable speed settings?

I am sorry but due to the oversized skimmer and your light load you will continue to have inconsistent issues till there is large enough of a bioload to sustain performance. Using a variable speed pump like the VarioS 4s will likely not give you any better control.
