Ice Cap Battery Back up indicator light

I just lost power to my house for 24 hours, my Gyre was/is hooked up to an Icecap Battery backup. I have a couple questions. What color should the indicator light be, red or green when the power is on, the battery backup is not running the pump? Are the two wires included with the battery backup identical? I ask because since I have had my battery backup the light on the plug has been green, when power on at house, same when the power went off yesterday, the light remained green. The battery ran out of juice about 14 hours after the power went off. I ensured I had it connected right, changed out the wire to the other in case the wire was bad. When the power came back on the indicator light is now a solid red, if I pull the wire from the plug out of the battery, the indicator light goes to green, I assume it now charging correctly?

My thought prior to the power outage was when the indicator light was green, it would blink red, per the directions once power went out indicating how many amps remain until it runs out.

Any guidance would be appreciated, ensuring it is working correctly to avoid the events earlier this afternoon.

The green light on the battery means that the battery is fully charged. If the battery is blinking red, then that means the battery is charging. If the gyre is connected correctly to the battery, the battery should always show green when you have power. The battery will only show red when you loose power and the battery is running the pump. If you have power and the battery is continuously blinking red, that means the pump is not connected correctly to the battery and the battery is running the pump instead of your regular electricity.

What model of the gyre are you running on the battery? The 100s version are not fully compatible with the battery. This means that the controller will not slow the pump down when power is out. The controller cannot detect the power outage and will continue to drive the pump at the current speed. So if your pump is running at 100% when the power goes out, it will continue to run at 100% even while running on battery.

If you have the 200s version of the gyre, then the controller is fully compatible with a backup battery and it will detect the power outage. It will slow the pump down to 30% and ignore all other controller commands to preserve battery power. It will resume back to normal operation once your electricity comes back on.

Carlos,

I have the 230 hooked up to the batter. Intitally when the power went out, all appeared to be working correctly, the pump was running, the controller lights were on, pump was running at 30%, yet the light on the battery ac plug was still solid green.

Once the power came back on, the light on the battery ac plug was a solid red, it never blinked, then turned to green. Oddly enough when the wire for the battery ac plug was touched at times the light would turn from solid red to solid green, I did not notice this until the after I sent this question to you. Could the batter ac plug wire have damaged wires, so the battery is not charging fully?

I will test the set up, unplug the power supply for the Gyre and the battery, that should trigger the battery to take over operation of the pump, correct?

Yes, unplug the pump's power supply from the outlet and the controller should detect the power outage and run from the battery. See what happens. Green means the battery is full charged.

Carlos,

I did test the set up last night, worked as described, no idea what was going on before, all i did was swap out wires. Anyways, when does the red light start to blink indicating how many amps are remaining? I ran the pump on the battery for about an hour and half, the light was a steady red, it never blinked at all.

Red means that the battery is not fully charged. That is all.

Then something is not working correctly with the battery. In an earlier post you said that green means the battery is fully charged. The light was green, prior to me unplugging the power suppply to the gyre, allowing the pump to take over. I would think that if it was fully charged the light would start to blink red 5 times, per the instructions, noting that the battery in fact has a full charge? So when does the red light start to blink when the gyre is running off the batter to let the user know how many amps are left? My concern is that the battery is not charging all the way when ac power is present.
