I have an xp2000 sss on a 210 gallon mixed reef with light bio load that has been working great. My son wants me to add more fish and coral. My stand is too short to allow an sro 3000 and was wondering if there would be any benefit of upgrading the 2000 bubble blaster to a 3000 bubble blaster or would I have to get an external protein skimmer? I do have an automatic neck cleaner on it as well. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

thanks,
Darren

Darren,

Unfortunately that is not possible. The HY-3000S is too much pump for the skimmer body you got. The body of the current skimmer you got is not wide enough and not tall enough to be able to handle the HY-3000S even if the output flow valve is fully open.

Here are some suggestions I have for skimmers that can handle bigger tanks but still remain the same height:

Here is one that is an inch higher than the XP2000SSS and it can handle up to 300 gallons:

Hope this helps.

Would replacing the 2000 bubble
Blaster pump with the diablo dc5500 variable speed water pump kick up the filtration capacity of the xp2000 SSS. It looks like they both have an 8" body.

No, the DC5500 is comparable to the HY3000. Yes, you can throttle it back but then, you end up with the flow of the HY2000 anyway.
