Hydros strip randomly “stops responding”

I recently added a new power strip to my Hydros Control 4’s collective (already running 2), and despite being connected to the internet the new power strip periodically stops “responding” for a short time before functioning like normal again clearing the alert state. The other 2 power strips don’t have this issue. I’ve rebooted my router, and controller itself (which is running current firmware) to no avail. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this? It’s gotten pretty annoying.

Do you have a "wireless" mesh such as Google or Orbi? Does your WiFi have 1 SSID name for both 2.4 and 5GHz bands?

No wireless mesh, and I have not split the bands on my router since other two strips have been working normally with no issues for a couple weeks. Just the new one that seems to be having problems.

So are both bands under the same SSID? If so, then that is the issue, and it was just a matter of time before things started not to work. The best thing to do is to split the bands, and then that issue will go away. The strips are not compatible with devices that put out one SSID for both bands.

Thanks for your help! I’ll get the bands split and follow up.

To reconnect your devices to the new SSID, do the following:

1) BEFORE changing your SSID, go into the HYDROS app and then into the WiFi strips and change the notification level to NONE. (You do not want the alarm going off while you are changing the WiFi)
2) Split your SSIDs
3) Reconnect your HYDROS brains by following the instructions here starting with step 3: https://www.coralvuehydros.com/product-support/hydros-control/connecting-to-your-wifi-network-bluetooth/
4) Once the brains are connected, now you need to pair your WiFi strips again. Follow the instructions here in Appendix C: https://www.coralvuehydros.com/product-support/hydros-control/pair-wifi-strip-smart-outlet/
5) Go back into your WiFi strip settings and return the notification level to the previous state.

So after splitting the bands and reconnecting everything, it ran well for a couple days, and is now back to “not responding” several times per day. It’s only the one strip that does this, the original 2 never have this issue. Is it possible that the strip’s WiFi adapter is bad?

I should also add that even after unplugging, deleting and then trying to re-pair the strip it wouldn’t go into pair mode half the time and the strip wouldn’t respond to any input via the power/reset button. I’m pretty convinced that this is a bad strip as I didn’t have any issues like this with my original two.

It actually sounds like a router and WiFi issue. After it was not pairing, did you try restarting your WiFi router? I bet if you do, then the WiFi strip will pair again.

I’ve rebooted the router several times. The hydros and other two strips have no trouble issue connecting, just the last one.

Is it normal for the strip to not even turn off/on when the power button is pressed?

Did you try power cycling the strip by disconnecting it and connecting it to power? Is it still unresponsive?

I power cycled it a couple times, the last time it did finally go through the motions and I was able to reconnect it, but it again will randomly stop responding for a few minutes at a time. I ordered another strip which should be here later this week that I plan on replacing it with.

Please, if the new one works, submit a private ticket, and we will issue a full refund for the replacement!

So the new strip arrived today (along with a leak sensor and skimmer sensor), and paired up straight away with no issues whatsoever. How do I go about submitting the private ticket?
