Good evening,
I purchached the hob 1000 about 6 months ago, and I'm having a issue with the skimmer producing skimmate. I have the the cup in the lowest setting possible and I could go 2 months (or more) without ever emptying the collection cup. I have tried to use the white air valve that came with the skimmer to try and adjust the amount of air and it still didn't work. I have tried to call customer support for 3+ weeks and was unable to get in touch with anyone and nobody returned any of the calls. I'm hoping by reaching out to you guys on hear will be fruitful with being able to point me in the right direction to getting my skimmer working. I have a 55 gallon tank that is moderately stocked with lps coral and 6 fish. Thank you for your time, and I hope to hear from you soon.

Thank you for contacting us. What kind of fish do you have? The range of this skimmer, which is printed in the box, is 60 gallons if HEAVY bioload minimum. When was the last time you took the pump apart and gave it a good cleaning? Checked the impeller's magnet for signs of cracks or swelling and checked to ensure that the ceramic shaft is not broken.

Goodmorning Carlos,
I appreciate your quick response. I have 2 Bartlett's anthias, 2 clowns, yellow headed sleeper and a yellow eye Kole tang. I took the pump apart 2 weeks ago, and I didn't notice the impeller or impeller shaft being broke or damaged. I'm guessing that I have a skimmer that is to big for my tank due to the range of the skimmer and in return is the reason for the skimmer not skimming?

There is the possibility that the skimmer is too big. You really do not have that much bioload and probably there aren't enough organics in there to make the skimmer work reliably and constantly. If you are planning on adding more fish to the tank or are a heavy feeder, then maybe.

Ok, well I was a heavy feeder until nutrients got out of control and contributed to my current problem with hair algae. I'm not adding any more livestock until I can get everything back on track. What would you suggest I do about the skimmer situation?

There is nothing you can do with the current skimmer. A skimmer cannot work if there are not enough organics for the skimmer to work with. In this case, I would suggest get a skimmer that is properly matched for your system size or increase your system size to match the skimmer you have.
