I have the Ice Cap Ballast 430 with two bulbs. I use Actinic Blue bulbs but recently when I put new bulbs in and turn it on for the first time, they are blue for about 5 seconds then turn white and remain white until they burn out. Any idea why this happens. Thanks

Rodney,
I don't believe the IC 430 ballast could cause this, what brand of lamps are you using?

Chris,
I am using Coralife HO T5 39 watt, 36" Actinic Blue Light. I have tried 3 or 4 now, purchased from fish stores.

I recommend the higher end lamps like the Giesemann. Are you cooling the lamps with a fan?

I do not. But, these lights used to work fine and I have never cooled them. They would not even have had a chance to get hot as they went from blue to white within seconds of turning them on and they stay white. When they switch on for the first time each day they are white as well. Just seems wierd since I used to have no issues.
