I have just upgraded my reef tank to a 90 gallon with a sump and need a skimmer to go with it. The area of the sump the skimmer would go into is 8 1/4" x 11 1/4". The water depth is 13" and there is 27" of room in the area under the tank. The tank has a decent bio load in it, so the biggest skimmer I can fit is preferred. I like several models of Reef Octopus skimmers but is there one you would recommend for this space and tank size?

Thanks You!

I could go with the classic 150int http://www.coralvue.com/classic-150-int-protein-skimmer or the Classic 150SSS http://www.coralvue.com/classic-150sss-protein-skimmer. You will have to raise the skimmer to as close to 8in as possible. You will need about 1/2" to remove the lid. The very best fit for your aquarium would be the Prime 150int http://www.coralvue.com/prime-150int-protein-skimmer which will sit in deeper water and the cup is much easier to remove in tight spaces.

Thanks Jeremy. I looked over those models and it seemed 2 out of 3 won't fit in the sump (11 1/4" x 8 1/4')

I looked over the site and it seems these will...

Classic 110INT Protein Skimmer
Classic 160 Protein Skimmer
SRO 1000 In-Sump Protein Skimmer

And this one too, but it may be to much skimmer (thoughts?)

Regal 170SSS Protein Skimmer

I can see from the descriptions which will fit in the sump, but I am unsure how to determine if the height will be a problem. I have 27" of total height and the water in the sump comes up 13" (so 14" above the surface of the water.) How far in will each sump sit in the water and will it leave me enough room to clean to collection cup?

Any help will be so appreciated!

Oh, and the Classic 150SSS Protein Skimmer you suggested would fit as well. Looks like a very nice one. Any recommendation between this and the 4 I listed above?

I am not a fan of the SRO1000 too much pump for that volume of skimmer. The 110int would be borderlining too small if you have a heavy load. The Classic 160 is the complete opposite as the skimmer will only work if you have a rich load. Regal 170 is too big. For 90 to 150gal heavy loaded aquariums you want a 5-6" skimmer body. The classic 150sss is 22" tall and can run as deep as 8.5" so you will need approximately a 4" platform for the skimmer to rest on. This would make the total height of the skimmer 26" allowing for 1" to remove the cup. Otherwise the next best approach is getting the classic 110int. Better to have a skimmer that will consistently perform than an oversized one that may perform inconsistently.

Great info Jeremy! So very helpful!! That is all the stuff I can't figure out from the descriptions and all the reviews I've been reading. I do love the Prime 150int http://www.coralvue.com/prime-150int-protein-skimmer you suggested, but am I right that 11 1/4" x 8 1/4" is too small?

If so I guess I will stay with the The classic 150sss.

Yeah, sorry the Prime 150int would not fit. Just check the one I have running here to confirm.
