Most likely the water level inside the skimmer is running too high. That area is meant to hold the cup in place and not create a water tight seal. If you are running the water level inside the skimmer too high because you are forcing the skimmer to collect, you will have the issue you describe.

Correct... Always start at the lower number and only raise it if you have to and only after the skimmer is properly broken in.

Mine leaks to. Advice was to check the o ring seal which i did and was no sand or anything. Only 4 months old and never leaked initially and Is not producing as much skimmate as it did before. Water level 8.5 inch

Tera, ask I mentioned before, the water level inside the skimmer is probably too high. The seal is meant to hold the cup in place and not prevent water from escaping. Water should NEVER be running that high inside the skimmer. If it is, you are forcing the skimmer to collect and that will only result in unwanted overflows.
