Hi,
I have a 29g biocube with a 10g sump. I'm told by numerous people to go to purchase a Reef Octopus skimmer. I'm looking at the BH-50. I see it's listed as a HOB skimmer, but I've seen it used in the sump on videos. I'm not interested in an HOB for the sump as there is no room in the cabinet. Can the BH-50 be used in sump as well? Also, how much operating water depth is required for the skimmer to function properly? If the BH-50 is not recommended, do you have a similar model that may work? Thank you in advance.

The skimmer can be used in the sump. You just have to make sure that the water level completely covers the pump intake and the surface skimming adapter is fully under water. Also, make sure that evaporation does not affect the level of the water as you do not want the water level to drop below the intake and run the skimmer dry.

Thank you,

What would the recommended water level (in inches) be in the sump for operation of the BH-50? Thanks.

When using the telescopic output pipe I would say that around 6.5-7" would be ideal. You just want to make sure the pumps intake is submerged at all times.
