I'm trying to move my HOB skimmer from my tank to my sump and need to extend the inlet and outlet pipes to reach the water level. My question is what size is the inlet and outlet tube for this skimmer? I've tried 1/2 inch and 3/4 inch for the inlet but neither worked...

You cannot do that unfortunately. If you extend the inlet, the pump will not have enough power to move water in and out of the skimmer especially if you loose power. The HOB skimmers are not designed to be in a sump and unfortunately the skimmer will not work.
