Is the XF250 too much?

I was set on going with the XF230 because I think it would be perfect for my 32" x 24" sps tank 66-gallons. My plan was to put the gyre on the back wall in the center overflow. My overflow is made from glass but has a black acrylic cover going around it with a 1/2" gap between the acrylic and the glass. I think it will be awesome to put a Gyre magnet in-between the acrylic and the glass on the overflow. My dilemma is that I think I have 1/2" clearance between the glass and the acrylic for the magnet side and for some reason the magnet is actually thicker on the 230 than the 250. The 230's magnet is 1.5cm (which may not fit) and the 250's is only 1cm (which will fit) Because of this, I feel that I have to get the 250, just because of the smaller magnet side. However, the distance from my overflow to the glass on the front panel is 18.5". Will the 250 be too powerful for me to use like this? Will setting a 250 at 10% be fine or does that eliminate some of the benefits of using the gyre? Thanks!
