I own a Reef Octopus Extreme 250 and one of the pumps seized up. It is now useless and I don't know how to find out if the pumps are warranty eligible. My tank may be in trouble because I keep sensitive corals.

I have it soaking in vinegar. I cannot get the pump to turn at all.

I can't even fit any spare pumps on it because of how it is designed.

Any information would be nice,
Thank you,

Daniel,

How old is the skimmer? When did you purchase it?

I have no idea but somewhere in the 2 years ago range. I actually plugged up the hole where the second pump fits and closed the gate so I could still skim. Not sure how having 2 pumps is any better since they both produce the same thing although at double the rate I suppose.

I read this idea from people who replace the 2 PSK 1000's with a big bubble blaster. It is just not easy to find a pump that fits the venturi and threads into the body.

I wish I knew how old this unit was. I can't even remember where I bought it for sure. Between kids and life I forget more than just this.

Daniel,

Yes, you can retrofit the skimmer to use a Bubble Blaster 5000. Here is the link to the product where you can purchase the right adapter for it as well..

Make sure to select the "Diablo XS 250" adapter.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

What would help is a new pump that does last for under 2 years. I have all types of pumps and power heads and this is the only broken one and the others and much older.

If you can provide us with proof of purchase, we can definitely start the process and get that pump fixed for you. Warranty on Sicce pumps is 2 years so if the pump is older than that, then it is out of warranty.

Uh yeah that pump is not in good shape. I was trying to and could not get the needle wheel off of it. I took the working one apart and cleaned it but I thought maybe the broken pump just had build up but I got the cover off but with full force I could not remove the needle wheel nor the shaft. It must have melted together or something. It is beyond any repair trust me.

Now is 1 Bubble Blaster better than having 2 PSK 1000's or what. I cannot see using 2 pumps and having the room in my sump. The Bubble Blaster looks far bigger than the PSK 1000.

I found a brand new PSK 1000 for sale for $80 but honestly I am pretty disappointed in this product after all the hype and people basically telling me to get one it's the best skimmer or skimmer brand made. I may just go with another brand after this.

It is really on my mind that the other PSK 1000 is gonna fail shortly. It is like light bulbs, you put 4 in your kitchen and they all typically go out around the same time. My cheap Coralife Skimmer tat people say are junk is still working after 7 years. Not a broken pump or part. May not pull as good but it is still pulling.

Only other thing is that it is far quieter with one pump now instead of howling.

Not sure what can be done at this point. A Bubble Blaster is like $225+ and a different brand skimmer is like $450 with all new parts and warranty.

Is this the pump skimmer you have? http://www.coralvue.com/diablo-250-protein-skimmer

I am sorry that the pump stopped working but they are machines that are running 24/7 and sometimes, they will go down. Regardless of the maker or brand of the pump. If you can provide me with proof of purchase, I would be more than happy to start the warranty process so that you can send in the pump for repair at no charge.

Kind regards,

Carlos

How do you verify the proof of purchase other than just seeing it. Does it involve any further investigation beyond visual inspection?

We need the sales receipt that shows the name of the seller, purchase date, your information and how much you paid for the item.

Ok so even if the store is no longer in business or there is now way for you to verify the information. I guess what I'm saying is that anyone can make a receipt for the item. I can give you a receipt but you won't be able to call that store to talk to them. Is this ok to give you.

If you cannot provide valid proof of purchase, then we would be unable to start a warranty claim. We would be more than happy to issue RA number so you can send the pump in for paid repair. You would be responsible for shipping charges and once the pump is received our techs would inspect it. If they can fix the problem, they will contact you and let you know the price. If they cannot fix it, they would contact you and you would have the option of having the pump sent back to you or we can properly dispose of it.

If you just want to purchase new pumps instead, or upgrade to the Bubble Baster pump, I would be more than happy to work something out with you and even give you a discount. Feel free to contact me at 985-718-1460 and we can discuss pricing.
