No, the recirculating pump does not pull water from the sump, it only recirculates. You still need a pump pushing water into the skimmer. We really do not recommend using EXT skimmers in the sump as they were not designed for that purpose.

Unfortunately the manufacturer does not provide an instruction manual. They do provide an assembly diagram that shows you how to put the skimmer together properly. http://blog.coralvue.com/download/7776/
