Prime 150

I have the prime 150int DC skimmer in 8 inches of water in my sump running with the drain plug off due to the break in period that is occurring. It has been about one week and even with the valve on the slowest setting the cup still overflows. At times it seems to be calming down and just when it does it acts up again. Is a week straight of overslow normal? I have measured, it is on a stand in 8 inches of water but the sump is 10" deep in the skimmer section. It is on foam blocks like I have done to adjust water level in other skimmers during break in.

I was just looking for tips.

Thank you

Jeff

I would suggest raising the skimmer so that it is only on 7.5" of water.

Can you please also tell me the age and size of your main tank (not including the sump)?

The tank is a 120 gallon lightly stocked and is about a year and a half old. It had an eshopps s200 cone skimmer before and did well.
The 8" it is in now is well within the directions and it would not be practical to keep putting it in more shallow water. Is the skimmer going to calm down.

The sump is a 20+ gallon ADHI acrylic with three compartments.

Yes, the skimmer will calm down once it has had time to break in.

Are you running activated carbon? Also, are you using any of the following: algaecide, stress coat, medication of any kind, red slime remover, chemi-clean or water conditioner or dechlorinator for water changes?

This tank was moved just two miles down the road quickly about 3 weeks ago. We have not re added the carbon and rowaphos again yet since the move. We figured we wait until skimmer is settled. Carbon may help though ? Correct ?

Yes, your tank is going through a small cycling as well so that may cause the skimmer to go crazy. Please run activated carbon and allow for the skimmer to break in. Once you do that, the skimmer will stop overflowing and will actually be a very hands off skimmer.
