I'm trying to minimize the smell of the waste coming from the collection cup. Can I tape over the venting holes on the lid of the collection cup? What would happen if I do that?

Are you transferring the waste to a different reservoir (waste collection system) automatically or just using the collection cup? If you are transferring, the air will escape via the waste hose. If you are using just the collection cup, there would be no way for the air to escape the skimmer and it will prevent it from working correctly.
