I am replacing the old OTP-2000 pump. Got the new 3000s and I picked an adapter... probably incorrectly.
The threaded output of the new pump is too big to match the skimmer connection. The Adapter if I understand correctly would have to go on my skimmer after I removed what's on the skimmer. But the diameter of the "pipe" from the skimmer is too small for the adapter to fit. The adapter is a 1 inch and the pipe on the skimmer housing looks maybe like a 3/4. ??
did I buy the wrong pump, adapter ? Ideally what's on the skimmer would just screw right onto the pump, but the pump side is too big. Suggestions on what I should do?
I tried putting some pictures in here but cant get it to work.

You got the wrong pump. You replace the OTP-2000 pump with an AQ2000S pump.
