I like the features and size of the XF280 but did not see that the Icecap Battery backup could be used with anything other than the 130, and 150. Is this just an web updating issue or do I have to settle on a smaller gyre to be able to utilize the icecap unit? Would the ecotech be a better option?

You should have no issues running the XF280 on the battery backup. Because it is a larger pump I would suggest using two batteries per pump.
