Hi, I have a BH1000, set up for a few weeks running on my 26 gallon fish only live rock aquarium. I have had the skimmer set up for a little over 2 weeks, the tank was running with just live sand and rock, and a few cleaners (snails) with a canister filter for almost a month before I added it. So far the skimmer performs really well with only the basic issues of break-in and the cloud of microbubbles after feeding my seahorses. I used to unplug it during feeding but despite there being no blockages in it, it overflows when I plug it back in. Not a huge amount, never even a full cup of saltwater, but I have hardwood flooring so I just leave it running now.
I empty the collection container every few days even though it rarely has more than about a half inch of "tea" in it. The problem I'm having is that removing and replacing the cup is getting more and more difficult. Its as if the cup or the skimmer body has warped and what used to be a smooth, easy, removal is now a struggle. The last time I changed it I thought it wasn't going to fit back into the housing at all, and once I did finally get it to fit into the housing I actually had to lightly knock the cup back down into place.
What could be going on here and how can I fix it?

Thanks for your time.

Sorry for the inconvenience. Can you please attach pictures of the cup or even a video of the issue? It would be very helpful for us to see exactly what you are referring to and will allow us to troubleshoot the issue more efficiently.

Hi Carlos, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I shot a quick video on my phone but its too large to attach here. I've uploaded it to photobucket. Sorry about the shooting quality, I'm still learning my phone.

At the same time, I will try to clarify. Instead of being able to lift the collection cup smoothly out of the body of the skimmer I have to rock it back and forth and sort of walk it out of the skimmer. This time, removed for the video, was easier than the last time. It was so wedged into the skimmer body that I was able to lift the full skimmer with the cup while I was trying to pull it free. The video for replacing the cup was terrible so it hasn't been included but its almost the reverse of removal once I get it to actually fit into its place in the skimmer.

Can you tell me what kind of lights you running? Also, with the cup removed, if you look straight down the skimmer chamber, is the acrylic bowed? Or is it the cup that is bowed?

Let me know,

I have an LED light strip that sits about 5 inches from the skimmer. I can't see any bowing on either piece when I look, but my view is not the best due to the height of the tank and the skimmer. I will have to climb up onto something and get a better look when I get off work. I did notice that the containment cup lid doesn't fit quite right, the corners don't seat, but its more of an up and down than side to side so I'm not sure it would be a good indicator of warp. It will be a few hours before I can get a definitive view but I wanted to let you know about the lighting at least. The strip gets warm, but nowhere near as much as the T5s on my freshwater and definitely not enough to cause acrylic to warp.

Hi again. I checked the collection cup and the skimmer body. The cup is fine but I can see when I get it back into the body that there is slight warping of the skimmer itself. From the top it is very obvious I took a couple of pictures, I hope you can see what I see. There is a white line between the cup and the body that is the foam beneath it.
Is there anything you can recommend for fixing this?

Thank you for all your help.

Thank you for the picture. How long ago did you purchase the skimmer? I know it has been installed for two weeks but how long ago did you purchase it and from where did you purchase it?

Thanks again for your quick response and help.
I bought it on the 21st of March this year, from Bulk Reef Supply.
