Hi,
I've had my skimmer set up for a week now. Its running quietly and producing a great amount of micro-bubbles. This is a big upgrade for me as my old skimmer NEVER produced dark skimate despite my heavy bio load. I have the skimmer in 8.2" of water. I've started seeing dirty foam at the top of the neck within the collection cup, but nothing is spilling over into the cup. So I have no skimate. I currently have the water/bubble level in the skimmer at the bottom of the cup. I did have it set at about the middle of the neck below the cup but raised it to see if that might help. What am I doing wrong? I read so many positive reviews about this skimmer and have been battling nitrates for 2 years. My tank is a 75gal display w/6" DSB and a 29gal sump. Please help.

New skimmers usually take 2 weeks to break in and during this period they will be erratic and you will not be able to dial in your skimmer very well. If the foam is not spilling over into the cup then close your gate valve a little and this should cause the bubble height to rise and flow over into the cup.
When you say you have the skimmer in 8.5" of water, is that the height of the water inside of the skimmer body? The water level inside the skimmer body should be set to 6.5" - 7" any higher you will not achieve the results you are looking for and the skimmer will overflow.

Hi Angie,
Thank you for your response. The water level in my sump is 8.2". That is in accordance with CoralVue's recommendation for my skimmer model. The range they suggested is 7.9" to 8.9 I believe. I guess what is so confusing is that so many people said their skimmers started pulling gunk immediately.

Again, thanks for any feedback.
