hi, i am new to SW, so i know nothing about protein skimmers. i have a reef octopus bh2000, and between the two chambers there is one threaded hole to hold the collection cup in place, and then below it there is another hole, not threaded, just an open hole between the two chambers.
my question is, do i need to push the collection cup down far enough to cover the hole? or do i always need to keep it above that hole for ventilation or something?

Keep the cup above that bottom hole. It is there just in case the water level inside the skimmer gets too high, the whole will allow the water to flow into the middle section and flow back into the tank instead of flooding your carpet.
