Elbow on the exit gate valve

I have a SRO 5000 and with the water level at 7", the exit flow is creating a lot of noise and salt creep from the bubbles. Is it ok to put an elbow on the exit gate valve in order to direct the flow back into the water? Would that create an performance issues?

You cannot just put an elbow as it would create back pressure. You would have to add a Tee with a proper vent. You would need to purchase OR create something like this...

OK great. Good thing I asked! I can build up something like this pretty easily. Right now there is a 1.5" pipe on the drain, so would reducing that down to something smaller (1.25" or 1") also create backpressure?

Yes, it would unfortunately. Never want to reduce the skimmer output because it will create back pressure.

OK, appreciate the quick response. 1.5" it is!
