Hello,

I have a BH1000 skimmer. For some reason the water won't drain down the output tube correctly. The water repeatedly rises in the skimmer and above the drain. Then it will catch up and drain down the hole correctly. It does this over and over. I check and no blockages. Any idea why it keeps rising and not draining down the output as it should? Do I need to lower the water level? Is my pump pulling too much water and not enough air? Its the OTP pump and about 5 years old.

How old is your tank? Has this skimmer been running for a while or is it recently installed? Are you running any of the sponges inside the skimmer?

The tank is about 5 years old. I have been running thsi skimmer since it was setup. This has recently become an issue. I do not run any sponges inside the skimmer.

I was thinking about upgrading to the Aquatrance pump. Would that be an upgrade? I was thinking less GPH and more air may help.

Thank you

Yes, the Aquatrance is a more efficient pump that can mix more air and water making the skimmer far more efficient.

Here is the link to the pump:

Just be sure to select the right adapter (same page) so that the pump can be installed on the skimmer you have.

Ok thank you. I think I will get the aquatrance. I am thinking my OTP is just getting old and not effciently mixing water and air causing the water level to constantly change inside the skimmer.

Does that sound like a possibility?

yes, absolutely. Pumps are just like any other machines... age does affect their efficiency.
