The point of the siphon break is to prevent the drawing water from a sump or display from siphoning into the fresh water container. If the ATO is setup properly with the output significantly higher than the water level within the tank or sump a siphon break is not needed. That is why the original smart ATO never came with them as if the unit is set up properly a siphon break is not needed.
