I purchased a 1k Gyre today, and other than the manual mode I'm lost. Is there a comprehensive programming manual somewhere? I understand how to switch parameters on each mode but no idea what recommended parameters should be for each... thank you

The recommended parameters you are asking about, Is this the percentages of what to run the pump at or time for the different modes ?
If so then that would be personal preference and what you decide is best for your tank.
There is a few videos on CVTV about set up and programming the 3k and the 1k is super similar in regard to controller modes / set up.
