Hey coralvue I just installed my skimmer into my sump and I am having trouble getting it to skim correctly, every time I add R/O water to top my system off it over flows. I am having trouble getting a constant skim as well. It has only been about 1 week since the install but it seems so touchy and can't understand what i doing wrong. Should the water level in the skimmer only be where the cup meets the body of the skimmer. Thanks let me know

How much RO/Water are you using? What is the water depth in with the skimmer sits?

Well it;s a 55 gallon tank with a pro flex model 2 sump and the water depth is up to the bottom of the ribbed area of the grey valve.

The skimmer should sit in 5.5 inches of water. Anything below that and the skimmer will not work correctly. Much more above that and the skimmer will start to overflow.

The water level in the sump dictates the water level inside the skimmer. If the sump level goes up, so will the level within the skimmer causing the skimmer to overflow. Most people create compartments within the sump and place the return pump in a compartment. As water evaporates, only the water level in the return goes down but the water level in the rest of the sump stays stable. That prevents fluctuations in water level and ensures that the skimmer has enough water to run properly but not too much water that the skimmer will overflow.

Ok so I have figured out how to keep the water level constant, I have the skimmer sitting in 5.5 inches of water, but it seems like it's not pulling too much stuff out of my tank, just a little bit of very light brown water how do you go about tuning this in, is there a certain set point you want the water to be at in the skimmer???
