I have recently purchased a NWB 110 with the new aquatrance pump. The gray piece of tubing that connects from the output/gate valve tube to the elbow on the skimmers body fits very loosely in the elbow . It fits tight and snug in the output/gate valve tube be legitimately just sits loose in the elbow. Is this normal or am I missing something???

Are you referring to this skimmer? http://www.coralvue.com/reef-octopus-classic-110int-protein-skimmer-183

Is the connecting pipe the same dimension on both ends? It should fit the same on both ends.

The skimmer should be sitting in about 7-8" of water.

The model # on the skinner is NW-110-6520B. The pipe that goes between the elbow and the output/control valve is gray not red. The pipe is not tapered because both ends fit tight in the output/control valve but loose in the elbow.

Please take pictures of the pipe and the pipe installed. Take pictures of the gate valve and the other end where the pipe connects. Once I see the pictures, I will be better able to assess the problem and come up with a quick solution. You can attach the pictures to this thread by using the paperclip icon in the message field.

That looks about right. Just make sure insert the pipe all the way into the elbow. This parts along with the gate valve are not supposed to be super tight. They are supposed to come off easily for cleaning. Also, they don't need to be tight because they are inside the sump and under water.
