Have the pump running for 3 years. Started to stop on its own once a day. We took it out and cleaned the impeller, after putting all the parts back together and plugging it back in the pump runs but spews out thick white smoke from the back vents.
The pump did get dried out while we were taking it apart. Is this something I should let run and the smoke will stop or is this pump about to blow up?

If it is smoking, you should immediately stop using it.

Thanks Carlos, I won't use it anymore. It wasn't smoking before I took the impeller out but now it is. Very weird.

Make sure that the impeller was installed correctly. Make sure the impeller is pushed all the way in.
