I have a BH-2000 hob, it's been in service for 6months. I took off tank the other day and serviced/ cleaned all parts. When I reinstalled on tank the water level rose well above drain pipe and then formed its cyclone to drain. I thought nothing more of until I wake up this morning with my floor flooded and whole system shut down due to water getting in power strip and shorting out interrupting power to whole tank. After clean up I turn everything back on but skimmer wants to overflow again; I've got no blockages that I can see, but don't understand why if water is draining like normal why it would lose its drain suction and overflow?

Did you prime the skimmer after removing it and cleaning it? If you do not prime the skimmer, there could have been air bubbles trapped on the plumbing that could have created an obstruction and reduced the amount of water the skimmer can push out compared to the amount of water the skimmer was taking in.

Also, did you clean the sponges? If not, the sponges inside the skimmer can also obstruct the flow of water causing the skimmer to intake more water than it can push out.

Lastly, if there was any soap or cleaning solution residue in the skimmer, it may have been introduced into the water column and caused the water to intake more air than usual and therefore, caused the skimmer to over bubble and overflow.

I did prime pump, cleaned sponges & I never use any kind of soap(s); just plain water. What aim noticing is the cyclone of drain pipe will appear normal oboe drain elbow then it will stop cycloning then start again, so on so forth. If it hadn't been for power strip shorting and interrupting power it would have assuredly burned up pump on skimmer and my hob filters. I've moved the foaming device down on its pipe and appears to be doing better but if you remove foaming device all together then it works perfectly. But fills water column with air.

Here is a video on how to assemble and install the BH-2000 skimmer. It also includes a section on how to properly mount it to the tank and the levels for both the intake and outflow should be.

I watched video; thanks.
My skimmer does not have grey neck at top on foaming device, instead it's all clear with elongated slits in perimeter and holes around the top. Where should the placement of this device be in relation to water level?
Also I've noticed that the plate with holes in it covered by square sponge keeps wanting to rise in the chamber, is this normal?
Sorry to be a pain but I need to feel like I can trust this skimmer again.still don't understand how a device could be draining fine and then decide not to and overflow.

The sponge will go up. If the skimmer is overflowing, then the first thing to do is to remove the sponge inside the skimmer. That is usually the problem as people do not clean it as often. If that clogs up, then it creates obstruction that prevents the water from exiting the skimmer at the same rate in which the pump pushes the water in.

Can you take a picture of the output device in your tank? Let me take a look at your setup and I can offer some suggestions on how to set it up correctly.

I took photo and used attachment button at lower right corner of this message box but I'm not sure if it sent,
I love reef octopus products; had a ninety gallon drilled tank with extreme 200 and bubble blaster pump,
have also had a couple of coralvue bh 50 hob, they all rock. Just don't get why after all this time this skimmer is deciding to act like this.
Please let me know if you have not received photo?
