I’ve had a new reef octopus 2000 classic hob for about a week I’ve set it up and it looks like it’s working properly except there is a gurgling noise like the water intake is sucking in air. I tried lowering the intake but then it started to overflow. I’m not sure what I am doing wrong. I also got a white air control valve along with the black silencer. But I don’t see anyone else using it in videos just the silencer

Follow the instructions on the video for intake water level. If you go too low the skimmer will overflow and if you go too high, then you may run the skimmer dry. The reason we put the video together is to show people exactly what the correct location of all the components is. In terms of the noise, the skimmer is still brand new and needs to break in. As the skimmer breaks in and gets coated with bacteria, it will quiet down.

The valve is only used during priming and then never used again. Some people dont even use the valve to prime as kinking the line is faster, easier and just as effective.

Ok that sounds good though I have watched the video on placement and it seems like there is no good spot I move it barely a centimeter down and it’ raises almost out of the skimmer and I move it a centimeter up and I get the gurgle noise. It is collecting good skimmate. I guess I’ll just hope for the best

On the return chamber of the skimmer there is a small 90 degree elbow at the top. The elbow is pointing straight up and the water overflows from the skimmer chamber, through the elbow and back into your tank. Take that elbow and rotate it either way 45 degree so it is not pointing up but instead at an angle. That will lower the water level inside the skimmer chamber AND also allow water to gently go into the elbow instead of splashing down. See if that helps.
